SHOPPERS can take advantage of free parking at all Wyre Forest District Council car parks after 3pm during the festive period.

This new earlier start time for the Christmas parking offer comes following feedback from residents and businesses.

The offer is running from Friday, November 22 when the first of the district’s Christmas light switch-ons will be taking place in Stourport.

Kidderminster’s lights switch-on will follow on Saturday, November 23 and Bewdley’s on Saturday, November 30.

The offer finishes on Sunday, January 5.

Cabinet member for operational services, Councillor John Thomas, said: “Our free Christmas parking offer has always been popular but we had feedback that shoppers would like a little more time, especially on the days when it is not late night opening.

"We are delighted to be able to offer an extra hour this year. We hope it will encourage people to shop locally and attract shoppers from out the district.

"There’s a lot going on in the district over the festive season and I hope as many people as possible come along and join in.”

The offer applies only to car parks owned by the district council and is not available at Weaver’s Wharf car park in Kidderminster, which is privately owned.

Signs will be put up at the entrances to all council car parks and information will also be displayed at all ticket machines. Motorists, including those using the Just Park app, will not need to pay for parking beyond 3pm during the period.
