HEREFORD Pegasus regained top spot of the Hellenic Division One West as they approach the half-way point of the season.

Peggy have now won seven from eight home matches on their new 3G surface, scoring 34 goals in the process.

Their latest success came with a 5-1 win over Newent Town.

Paul Jones opening the scoring before debutant Isaac Kelly doubling their lead before the break.

Zac Sirrell completed the win with a second half brace before an own goal completed the score-line.

Pegasus now have three more home games before the end of 2019 including the visit of promotion rivals Thornbury Town.

"We're finding our feet and getting stronger," said joint manager Dave Cadwallader.

"We are scoring a lot of goals and also missing a lot of chances, which is still positive.

"It's so far so good and at the half-way point this Saturday (hosting Shortwood United) we are where we want to be really.

"We now have a strong enough team to progress, which we will hopefully do come April.

"Our target was to be six points off the leaders at Christmas which puts us in the mix.

"From a personal perspective I don't do anything unless I can win it.

"We want to be champions this year but it's not going to be easy as there are some very good sides including local sides Malvern Town, Lads Club and Wellington.

"The 3G suits us but we have got three difficult games at home next. We need to win the one against Thornbury Town on December 28."

Cadwallader added that his Pegasus side have grown in strength throughout the opening half of the season with new arrivals adding depth of the squad.

He added: "When we started until now we are getting stronger and stronger, which I think is positive.

"Isaac Kelly came in Saturday and played out of position but worked his socks off.

"We also had Carlos Moreira who had a bit part but not straight back into a starting side that had scored 11 games in two games prior to Saturday.

"We have now got a lot of options on the bench, which is all positive."
