THESE days there are probably not too many people who head for Netley beach, overlooking Southampton Water, to pick winkles.
However back in the early part of the last century the stretch of beach was a popular place to gather this former teatime treat.
If this old postcard is anything to go by then it seems winkling was quite a family activity, with even a baby being taken along for some sea air.
