STOURPORT Swifts are looking to raise money to help pay for repairs after their football pitch and newly-refurbished clubhouse were hit by flooding.

The clubhouse at Walshes Meadow had undergone a new extension just weeks before Storm Dennis hit and swamped the field earlier this week.

Manager Quentin Townsend told The Shuttle: "It was a nightmare to wake up to. The pitch is ruined.

"It wasn't in the best state before this so I'm not sure we'll even be able to get back on it in the next three months to finish the season.

Kidderminster Shuttle:

"We knew it was potentially going to happen so staff had moved a lot of our equipment off the floor in preparation, but I don't think anyone can prepare for something like this.

"The bigger problem is that we had just had a brand new extension on our clubhouse."

Kidderminster Shuttle:

He added: "Financially, this is going to hit us hard. It's not just a case of finding money for repairs, it's the lost revenue from match days."

The club has set up a Just Giving page with the aim of raising £2,000 towards the extensive clean up operation.
