A FUNDRAISING night at a Stourport pub will support a local mum in her bid to run the London Marathon.

Building company owner Emma Crowther is hosting a race night at The Astley Cross Inn on Saturday in an effort to raise the £2,000 needed to enter the marathon on behalf of disability charity Scope.

From 7pm on March 7, visitors to the Areley Common pub will be able to place bets on eight horse races, which will be shown on the night, with the winner taking home a cut of the money raised.

Mum-of-two Emma, aged 46, who has been running to keep fit for eight years, said: "I didn't get a ballot place for the London 2020 Marathon but luckily I got a place with the charity Scope.

"I have donated a few quid each month to them for about seven years.

"I need to raise £2,000 to run and I've got £600 so far from friends' and family's donations.

"Hopefully the money raised on Saturday will bring me up to the total."

Also raising cash on the night will be Emma's husband Nigel, who will be attempting a six-hour sponsored silence.

Emma said: "My husband's a builder so he might not be very good at staying silent - builders are the worst for talking a lot!"

There will be a raffle on the night with prizes up for grabs and a buffet.

The event is free to attend. People can also support Emma's fundraising efforts by donating online at justgiving.com/fundraising/emma-crowther11.
