A MAN threatened staff opening the Tesco store in Cookley this morning before making off with money and cigarettes.

Police were called to the Bridge Road shop at around 6am on Friday, March 20 after a man reportedly forced his way into the store.

Staff were opening up the branch at around 5am as the man entered the shop and threatened them, before fleeing with a quantity of money and cigarettes.

The man left the scene in a red car, which has since been recovered.

The robber is described as being of a slim build, around 6ft tall, dressed all in black and with a heavy Black Country accent.

Detective Inspector Lisa Duncan, of West Mercia Police, said: "The investigation and search is ongoing and officers are conducting local enquiries.

"If anyone has any information or has seen a man matching the description, please contact West Mercia Police on 101 and quote incident number 0061s of Friday, March 20."
