ROADS were closed in Stourport after an air ambulance was called out to a crash involving a bicycle and a car near to the Lidl supermarket.

A female cyclist was seriously injured in the crash - although her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening - and she has been taken to hospital.

The collision happened on the Gilgal/Vale Road area of Stourport at around 9.30am on Tuesday morning (June 23).

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.42am to reports of a collision involving a car and a cyclist on the Gilgal in Stourport, near to Lidl.

"We sent one ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.

"On arrival, we discovered one patient - a woman, who was the cyclist. She was treated for serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

"She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham by land ambulance for further treatment."

Road closures were in place in the area.

Drivers were advised to avoid the area if possible.
