A MAN has been sentenced to six months in prison for his role in a burglary at JD Sports in Kidderminster.

Two men, both from Kidderminster, were charged in connection with a burglary at Weavers Wharf retail park in the early hours of Thursday, June 18.

Police say the pair forced entry into the shop at around 1.30am.

The men both appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 19.

One of the defendants, Peter Vickers, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to entering JD Sports as a trespasser and stealing £265 worth of sportswear from the store.

The 33-year-old was jailed for 26 weeks.

Magistrates said the offence was aggravated by the defendant's record of previous offending.

Another man, Ryan Young, aged 25, of Radford Avenue, pleaded not guilty to the same charge.

Mr Young also appeared in court on another theft charge - whereby he pleaded guilty to stealing five meat joints worth £24.97 from Aldi in Kidderminster.

The offence took place on February 8 this year.

Mr Young was ordered to pay court costs of £135 in relation to the earlier theft and was remanded on bail to face trial for the JD Sports burglary in July.
