A KITCHEN assistant at a Bewdley care home will brave the shave to raise money to bring some joy to elderly residents during lockdown.

Colleagues at Summerdyne Nursing Home were surprised when Nene announced she wanted to shave her hair off in aid of the home's residents fund.

Nene said: "It's been a long time for the residents during this lockdown and I want to do something sparkling for them - something nice to bring joy."

Asked how she was feeling about the upcoming head-shave, which is due to take place next week, she said: "I am good, excited, happy – there is no backing out!"

Nene has worked at Summerdyne for just over a year, and staff say she is a joy to have around the home.

Manager Paula Lees said: "Nene always comes to work radiating happiness and cheer, she has a wonderful uplifting outlook on life and is a joy to have in the home.

"Nene quite often treats us all to her delicious home-cooked delights and she is the type of person you just can't help being happy around."

Staff have been pledging their donations in aid of Nene's fundraising challenge. All money raised will go towards a treat for the care home's residents.
