A COUNCILLOR has called again for more to be done on a stretch of road following a serious car crash on Tuesday evening.

City and county councillor Andy Roberts has spoken out after three people were taken to hospital following a crash between two cars and a lorry on the A4440, Parsonage Way

Two are in a critical condition.

Cllr Roberts said: “I don’t know if speed had anything to do with this terrible crash, but, for some time, I’ve been asking for all of the road to be reduced to 40mph, as traffic comes straight off the motorway - it should be done in gradual stages.

“It’s confusing to everyone as part of the road has a 40mph limit in place where other parts do not.

“My thoughts are with the people involved in the crash and their families at this difficult time.”

Yesterday morning a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance crews found two cars with significant damage and a lorry further down the road.

“There were two people trapped in the first car. The woman driver was rapidly extricated and given advanced trauma care at the scene before being taken on blue lights to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with serious injuries.”

The spokesman added: “The man in the front passenger seat had to be extricated.

“He was taken by ambulance to the same hospital as a precaution due to the serious nature of the crash. His injuries were less serious.

“The man driving the second car had managed to get out himself. He was assessed at the scene for potentially serious injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

“The lorry driver was not injured.”

A 20-year-old man and 19-year-old woman remain in a critical condition in hospital.

A 21-year-old man remains in hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.

Sue Purcell, who reacted to the story on the Worcester News Facebook page, said: “We only said on Tuesday afternoon people would need to take care as there’s road works right by the island that you suddenly find the inside lane is blocked if that’s where it happened.”
