A THREE-day fishing contest at Shatterford Lakes will raise money for the family of a nine-year-old girl with severe brain damage.

Lily Mae Filmer, from Drakes Broughton, underwent a bone marrow transplant in May following a three-year battle with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, but woke up unable to move her legs and was told she had suffered brain damage from a rare inflammation overreaction.

The brave youngster went into Acorns Children's Hospice for end of life-care last month, but shocked her family when she woke up from a coma three days later and was transferred back to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Family friend Ryan Botterill, from Bewdley, is now organising a fishing fundraiser to raise money for Lily's family.

Ryan told The Shuttle: "Me and Lily's dad are childhood friends so I've set up a fishing fundraiser at Shatterford Lakes to raise some money to help them out.

"It's going to be a big event with a live chef and prizes given out to the winners.

"It’s a private syndicate but the owner is allowing friends and guests to come along so anyone can join in at the two top lakes."

The event will take place from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 13 from 1pm.

Prizes will be given for the biggest catfish, biggest carp and most fish caught.

Entry costs £35 per person or £50 for the weekend for non-syndicate members. All proceeds will be donated to Lily's Freedom Fight fund.
