HALTON’S rate of new coronavirus cases is now one of the highest in England, according to Public Health England data.

During the seven days up to September 18, there were 199 new cases recorded in the borough – more than double the 81 recorded in the week up to September 11.

Halton’s rate of new cases is now reported to be 153.8 per 100,000 people, which is at present the sixth highest in the country.

In the seven days up to September 11, the borough’s rate stood at 62.6 per 100,000 people.

Data is based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government's testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

Figures for the most recent three days, September 19-21, have been excluded as they are incomplete and likely to be revised.

Bolton continues to record the highest rate in England, though it is down from 213.5 in the seven days to September 11.
