PUPILS at Bromsgrove's largest school are self-isolating after a confirmed case of coronavirus.

South Bromsgrove High School, which has more than 1,300 students, confirmed 'an individual' had tested positive for Covid-19.

It is unknown whether the person who has fallen ill is a pupil or member of staff - but the Advertiser understands Year 10 is the year group affected by the case.

Dr Kathryn Cobain, Director for Public Health for Worcestershire said: β€œAn individual from South Bromsgrove High School has tested positive for COVID19.

"This case was quickly identified, and the school is being supported by Public Health.

"Additional measures have been put in place to protect the school and help minimise any further disruption.

"Close contacts have been identified and traced, they are now also self-isolating for 14 days in line with guidance and will continue their learning through remote access.”

South Bromsgrove, on Charford Road, becomes the fifth school in the district to confirm a positive coronavirus case since pupils returned to classrooms at the beginning of September.

Year 5 pupils at Belbroughton Primary were forced to self-isolate last week, while Rigby Hall Special School, in Aston Fields, collapsed a bubble as a 'precautionary measure' after 10 pupils showed coronavirus symptoms.

Woodrush High School in Wythall sent a Year 7 class and three staff home after a pupil tested positive just days after school reopened fully following the coronavirus lockdown.

And Millfields First School told a class and an after-school group to self-isolate after a member of staff returned a positive test.
