A SCHOOL in Hartlebury for children with autism has closed after two coronavirus cases were confirmed at the school.

Staff and students at the Cambian New Elizabethan School at Quarry Bank are now self-isolating as a result.

The Shuttle understands the two positive cases include at least one staff member.

A spokesman for the New Elizabethan School said: “Following agreement with Public Health England, our school is temporarily closed. School staff and students are now self-isolating.

"As during the early stages of the pandemic, teaching is being maintained through virtual lessons and support.

"The school will reopen after requisite cleaning and as staff and students return from isolation during October.

"We continue to be grateful for the support of the parents and carers of our children at this time.”

Dr Kathryn Cobain, director of Public Health for Worcestershire, said: “Two people from Cambian New Elizabethan School in Hartlebury have tested positive for Covid-19.

“This case was quickly identified and the school is being supported by Public Health. As a number of teaching staff have been identified as close contacts, the school has taken the decision to close.

“Those identified as contacts are now also self-isolating for 14 days in line with guidance and all children will continue their learning through remote access."
