POLICE have arrested a man after a noxious substance was sprayed in Pizza Hut, McDonald's and Tesco branches in Upper Gornal last night. 

A 20-year-old man handed himself into Brierley Hill police station today (Wednesday) after a noxious substance was sprayed in the three premises. 

He is being kept in custody for questioning. 

Staff and customers at McDonald’s, Tesco and Pizza Hut were exposed to what is thought to be a type of pepper spray at around 7pm. 

Fifteen people were treated at the scene for breathing difficulties by paramedics, with one taken to hospital. 

Police said none have suffered any lasting effects.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Following fast-track CCTV enquiries, detectives made several attempts to locate a suspect and the 20-year-old is currently in custody for questioning.
