SPORTS students at a city college have been asked to self-isolate, according to a parent.

The woman who wishes to be remain anonymous said: “My son and his course group were sent home from Worcester campus yesterday (Tuesday) after being informed that they had been in contact with someone who had tested positive for Covid 19.

"It is the BTEC level 2 sports. I think it was only their course/bubble sent home. They move around, so not sure which buildings they use.The college did seem to act promptly.”

Heart of Worcestershire College would not confirm or deny if a course group had been sent home.

A spokeswoman said: “We are aware that we are not immune to coronavirus and as such will respond quickly and take action as and when necessary.

“In line with Public Health England guidance and with the support of the Local Outbreak Response Team the college will continue to work closely with any students reporting symptoms of COVID-19. As a result of this, further students may be required to self-isolate for a set period; the college will identify and contact those affected.

"If students are not told to self-isolate on any occasion and are not exhibiting symptoms themselves, then they are still required to attend college as normal. We can confirm the college is open and we continually ask staff and students to not attend if they are displaying any symptoms of COVID-19.

“Whilst on-site we ask all staff, students and visitors, to please continue following the safety guidelines and maintain excellent hygiene and social distancing.”

We reported last month on two coronavirus cases at the college.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed there has been a case at a primary school in Malvern.

The case at Malvern Wells Primary School is understood to have caused disruption among year 4 and 5 children.

Dr Kathryn Cobain, director of Public Health Worcestershire, said: “An individual from Malvern Wells CE Primary School has tested positive for Covid-19.

"This case was quickly identified, and the school is being supported by Public Health. Additional measures have been put in place to protect the school and help minimise any further disruption.”
