PUPILS in Wolverley have solved the mystery of some strange holes in the ground and odd footprints near their school.

The reception class at Heathfield Knoll School and First Steps Day Nursery set up a night vision camera in the hope of catching the culprits after discovering a series of muddy prints in their outdoor learning space.

Pupils were tasked with finding a hiding place in the forest area where the camera couldn't be spotted.

The motion sensor camera was then set up each afternoon and checked the following morning for a whole week before the class discovered what had been leaving the mess.

Among the unexpected nighttime visitors caught on camera were foxes, muntjac deer, squirrels and birds.

The footage showed two deer entering the foster overnight, followed by a fox in the early hours of the morning.

Reception class teacher Sadie Evans said “The children were so excited to watch the videos and were amazed what animals were living in our school forest.

"The children loved the whole experience and we found out that it was the muntjac deer who had been making a mess in their outdoor area.”

The class has since shared its forest camera footage with BBC Autumn watch.
