JONNY HOWSON has pledged his future to Middlesbrough by signing an extended contract with the club.
The midfielder, who has captained the team on a number of occasions, is now committed to the club until the end of the 2021/22 season at the earliest.
The offer of an extended stay is seen as a deserved reward for a player who has been in outstanding form over the past 12 months.
He slotted into a number of positions with ease last season, but has reverted to his favoured central midfield berth this term where he has once again excelled.
Boro boss Neil Warnock said: “It’s another step in the right direction for the club. I’d rate Jonny as the best midfield player in the league at the moment. I only see him getting better.”
Howson recently made his 500th career appearance and his 150th in a Boro shirt, and was named Boro Supporters Club 2020 Player of the Year for 2019/20.
