A MAN has died after he was hit by falling slabs at an industrial unit in Cradley.

The incident happened at Graniteland on Lyde Green, at about 3.20pm yesterday (Monday).

West Midlands Police is investigating the incident in which a man in his 40s died. Officers had set up a forensic tent at the site yesterday.

The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called to reports of slabs having fallen on to a man at an industrial unit in Lyde Green, Cradley, at about 3.20pm.

"A man in his 40s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries to establish the circumstances are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed."

The Midlands Air Ambulance was scrambled to the scene.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a medical emergency at an industrial premises on Lyde Green, Cradley at 3.13pm yesterday.

"Three ambulances, two paramedic officers, the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was in a critical condition and already receiving medical attention from bystanders.

"Ambulance staff immediately took over and began administering specialist trauma care.

"However, despite everyone’s best efforts, it unfortunately became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

A person who answered the phone at Graniteland today (Tuesday) said the firm was closed until further notice.

They did not wish to make a statement.

The company supplies granite and quartz worktops.
