CURVES and beauty are all classic car enthusiast Jason Rule asks for in a vintage vehicle. Well that and a soft top.

“Something with curves and beauty and as often as not a soft top normally gets inside my head,” he told the Daily Echo. “Shape and lines are most important to me in a classic.”

The motors fans from Bursledon currently owns a 1961 190sl Mercedes, a 1972 Chesil Speedster, and a Renault 4CV in restoration.

Nicknamed Grace, Nina and Spud, they are part of the family of Jason, his F1 fan wife and son, who share his passion for classic cars.

Jason, who has previously owned a Ford Mk2 Cortina, and 2lr Ford Corsair, thinks a car says a lot about its driver.

“Some cars definitely lean towards the arrogant type, others to happy fun types and the list goes on, fast sporty, cool, and sometimes smug. Over the years of going to shows I have seen them all.”

He has been to hundreds of shows and helped organise some through Rotary, but his favourite of all time is Car Fest, the Chris Evans founded music and motoring festival, held in Laverstoke Park Farm in Overton as well as Cheshire each year raising money for children’s charities.

"It mixes my love for cars with music and a sprinkling of nostalgia and dressing up in vintage outfits," said Jason.

Jason's current daily drive is a Lexus 450 hybrid, but he hasn't gone fully electric because the family holiday home in Cornwall is beyond the range of an electric car at the moment. But he is considering converting the little Renault 4CV he is working on to electric, but needs to do some more research.

Jason, whose ideal car is an Aston Martin DB5 because of its stunning shape, talked more about road trips.

He said: "I am embarrassed to say I haven’t done many really long trips in my classics although always going to but somehow never quite get there. We do travel a lot across Europe in a motorhome dragging the car behind on a trailer but that doesn’t really count.

"My ideal road is a coastal route with a sea breeze on a hot day in a convertible."
