PLANS to light up Bewdley Bridge have been given the go ahead to bring some extra festive cheer to the town.

Bewdley Town Council, the Bewdley Civic Society and local company Light Ideas International Ltd have secured permission from Worcestershire County Council Highways to carry out the project.

The bridge will be lit with a colour changing light display during Christmas and the New Year festive period.

Bewdley Town Council and Bewdley Civic Society have shared the costs and the lighting was installed by AFJ Electrical.

Bewdley Mayor Anna Coleman said: "Bewdley is at its best when the community are joining together, a great result with a lot of work has been done by many."

Bewdley Civic Society chairman Richard Perrin said: ''The Civic Society is delighted to work with the Town Council and Light Ideas on this excellent project which it hopes will be a morale booster for the people of Bewdley in these difficult times.''

Richard Heath from Light Ideas International Limited said: “As a long-standing resident of Bewdley it’s great to be able to participate in such a worthwhile project.

"It’s been a tough year for everyone and if lighting the bridge brings a little pleasure to our town then I’m only too happy to assist. Big thanks to Anna Coleman & co for gaining permission so quickly. Let there be light.”
