THE sentence of a convicted Kidderminster paedophile is to be reviewed after the Attorney General deemed it 'unduly lenient.'

Callum Haycock, who avoided prison after being found guilty of raping a five year old girl, will be back before the courts on Friday 11 December for his hearing.

A spokesman for The Attorney General's Office said: "The Solicitor General has referred the sentence of Callum Haycock to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme as he considers the sentence to be too low.

"It is now for the court to decide whether to increase his sentence.

"The hearing is listed for Friday 11 December at the Court of Appeal.

Haycock, 21, was sentenced to a three-year community order and 35 days’ rehabilitation requirement at Worcester Crown Court on Thursday, October 1.

He was also fined £200 and ordered to pay £2,500 to the victim after being found guilty of a charge of raping a child under 13, as well as being put on the Sexual Offenders’ Register for five years.

There were calls to sign a petition to get him imprisoned and multiple applications to review the sentence sent to the Attorney General on top of the mum of the victim appealing the sentencing to the High Court in London.

The girl’s mother is devastated Haycock was not handed a jail term for the incident.

She said: “I ran out of the court and slammed the door behind me, as I walked out of the court I just shouted ‘it’s a joke’. I see no justice for my daughter in this.

The heartbroken mother, however, said she has found consolation in the courage of her daughter, who testified at the trial.

She added: “She’s been incredibly brave, she gave evidence at the trial and everything. I’m immensely proud of her. She’s one of the bravest little girls I’ve ever met.”

When the results of the trial were released, the sentence was met with outrage from the public.

Belinda Hudson said: “Nobody of any age should go through this but a five year old? It’s just sick and the punishment he got, what a joke. That poor little girl has a lifetime of living with what happened. Where is her justice in that? Sick just sick.”

Claire Wright said: “Disgusting absolutely shocking. Rape victims never get justice. Karma will get the bloke.”
