A GRANDFATHER’s vision to create a multi-use hub at a Wyre Forest village school is now a reality thanks to support from local companies and fellow PTA members.

Made from recycled and donated materials, the PTA Hub at Far Forest Lea Memorial CE Primary School includes an activity and shop area, PE storeroom and covered shelter.

It was the idea of Ron Clowes, whose eight-year-old grandson Finley Matthews is a pupil.

The hub has now opened with a Christmas shop for the children to buy small gifts for their families.

PTA chairman Alison Timmins said: “This was Ron’s vision and we are so grateful to him and the businesses that have contributed the building materials.

“We can meet here and organise events – particularly important at present as we can’t go inside the school because of the Covid restrictions.”

PTA member Hayley Tarbet has painted a rainbow over the hub entrance as a lasting tribute to the role key workers have played throughout the pandemic.

Future developments include the installation of water and electricity supplies so hot drinks can be served to parents during events on the playground.

Much of the building materials came from the former car salesroom at Far Forest which was cleared for house building by Rob Matthews, of Matthews Construction, and other materials were donated by firms including Thompson and Parkes.

Executive headteacher Shelley Reeves-Walters praised the work of the PTA, saying: “This small band of dedicated supporters work amazingly hard to provide much-appreciated extras which enhance both school life and our stunning location.”
