WEATHER warnings remain in place for Worcestershire, with Storm Christoph set to bring rain and high winds to the county in the coming days.

According to the Met Office, the storm is likely to hit large areas of the country, with some areas including South Yorkshire declaring a major incident after flooding.

Though Tuesday was a mostly dry day, Wednesday is set to see heavy rain across Worcestershire with flooding a possibility.

The weather forecast for Wednesday is for heavy rain from 6am until 10pm, followed by lighter rain thereafter.

Under the yellow warning, spells of prolonged and heavy rain may lead to flooding and disruption to travel in places, with homes and businesses possibly seeing flooding.

As a result, forecasters are warning businesses and homes to be aware of possible flooding, though no flood warnings were in place at the time of writing.

The rain is set to continue throughout Wednesday night and into the early hours of Thursday morning.

Despite this, the forecast is much better for Thursday itself, with sunny intervals predicted throughout the day.

Chief meteorologist Neil Armstrong from the Met Office said “Storm Christoph will bring a mix of notable weather hazards across the UK over the next few days.

“ Some locations in central Northern England and Wales could see a month’s rain fall in just a couple of days, with up to 200mm possible over higher ground.

“These amounts of rainfall present a real threat of flooding and people should keep a close eye on flood warnings from the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and SEPA.

“With the cold air in place across the whole of the UK temperatures will drop as we move into the weekend with a return to overnight frosts for many.”

Although Friday will be drier with more sunshine, the delayed response of some river systems means there will be ongoing flood risks in some areas.
