THERE were no new coronavirus deaths recorded in Worcestershire's hospitals for a second day in a row – despite another unwanted high nationally.

The county’s toll remains at 607 for those who have died while in Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust hospitals and 48 while in Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust hospitals.

There were another 609 new fatalities in England with the UK total of 653 the highest Monday figure since mid-April.

Figures are released each day but those put together for Sundays and Mondays tend to be lower due to a weekend reporting lag. Historically, spikes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays have followed.

The highest number of deaths announced on a Monday remains at 697 on April 13 during the UK's first peak.

The 653 reported today were aged between 30 and 101 years old. All except 14, aged 41 to 96 years old, had known underlying health conditions.

The date of death ranges from December 17 to January 24 with the majority being on or after January 15. Their families have been informed.

The South East was the worst-affected region with 132 deaths registered, followed by the East of England (128) and London (123).

There were 98 deaths in the Midlands, 54 in the North West, 47 in the North East & Yorkshire and 27 in the South West.
