THE hardworking team at Bewdley Farm Shop have received an award for their commitment to supplying fresh fruit and vegetables to people who were shielding during lockdown.

Tony Thompson and his staff at Bewdley Farm Shop have worked incredibly long hours during the pandemic to deliver food to elderly and vulnerable customers who haven't been able to get out to the shop.

Kay Wood, who nominated Bewdley Farm Shop, said: "Tony and his team have been doing free delivery of fruit and vegetables since the beginning of lockdown. Their service is fantastic.

"They have worked long hours to answer all the calls and keep all their customers supplied.

"Always smiling and keeping our spirits up, they are amazing, working way beyond expectations."

Bob Hill from Bewdley Rotary Club and his wife Annie awarded the Lockdown Heroes award to the Farm Shop team on Friday.

He said: "We have known Tony since he opened the shop just over 30 years ago, so it gave Annie and myself great pleasure in being asked to award Bewdley Farm Shop with their well-deserved Bewdley Rotary’s Lockdown Heroes award.

"From the start, he has been very passionate and totally dedicated to serving the community and is still to this day travelling early mornings to Birmingham markets to collect the produce for the shop.

"Since the pandemic, along with his family and staff, they have been working longer hours than normal especially having to increase a much needed home delivery service for many people that are unable to get out throughout the district, being very vulnerable because of their age or with health conditions.

"It has been non-stop but they have continued to provide the usual friendly first-class service and high quality produce being sold which always makes the shop look and feel very inviting to visit, whilst still maintaining the government rules of wearing masks and customers having to be socially distanced keeping everyone safe.

"Bewdley Farm Shop is a very nice place to go to. Tony and his staff have always given an outstanding service and particularly in December, embracing the spirit of Christmas with festive hats being worn by the staff along with Tony wearing different festive suits. Our particular favourite is the one that has sprouts printed all over it.

"Well done to you all at Bewdley Farm Shop."

On receiving the award, Farm Shop owner Tony said: "It’s been a great pleasure to do that extra bit and go to our customers who can’t come to us and this award from Wyre Forest Rotary, The Shuttle and the people of Bewdley tells us that it's worth it."
