CORONAVIRUS cases are continuing to fall in Wyre Forest and across Worcestershire, but some areas still have a high number of infections.

For the seven days up to January 23, Wyre Forest had the second lowest Covid rate in the county at 315.9 per 100,000 people. That was a reduction on the rate for the week up to January 16, which stood at 392.9.

Malvern had the lowest infection rate in the area at 260.5, compared to 344.4 a week earlier.

Even Redditch, which saw the highest increase in the whole of the country last week, has since seen a fall in its infection rate from 687.3 to 590, though this is still the highest rate in Worcestershire.

Worcester's infection rate was 467.3 - down on the 684.6 recorded a week earlier, while Bromsgrove's fell from 558.7 to 361.4.

Wychavon's infection rate also fell from 510.7 to 373.2.

In comparison, Birmingham had an infection rate of 577.9 and Dudley's was 586.8. 94 per cent of regions saw a fall in infection rates.

According to the latest figures, most areas of Wyre Forest remain in the third highest category for their infection rates (between 200 and 399), however Wolverley, Cookley and Blakedown and Spennells and Hoobrook are in the slightly lower category, with rates under 199.

The Greenhill area of Kidderminster and Stourport Lickhill and Burlish are in the second highest category, with rates over 400, however these still come under the national average.
