ALWAYS wanted to work with animals? West Midland Safari Park is on the search for two new zoo keepers to work with its rhinos.

The Bewdley park currently has two zoo keeper job vacancies listed on its website - an animal keeper to join the Ungulates Africa Section and a senior keeper to join its Ungulates Asia Section.

The park's ungulates teams care for a large number of ungulates species, including the Asian rhinos which welcomed their newest member, baby Inesh, in September - the first Indian rhino to be born on site in the park’s 47-year history.

The animal keeper role is a permanent position and the park is looking for applicants who can demonstrate the ability and knowledge to work with its extensive range of ungulate species managed in a drive through system.

The position involves husbandry tasks, such as feeding, cleaning, health monitoring and enclosure maintenance. It also includes monitoring of the park's guests in the drive-through and delivering keeper talks.

The role requires someone who is confident, motivated and enthusiastic about wildlife conservation and has excellent communication skills.

The successful applicant will require good wildlife knowledge and have an animal related qualification to HND level or above.

The park is looking for someone with previous experience in a similar role as it is a physically demanding but very rewarding role.

Due to driving company vehicles, the park is looking for applicants who have full, valid driver’s licenses.

The job pays a salary of £17,004 to £18,350. Applications close on Sunday, February 14.

The senior position requires direct involvement in the daily management of the animals on the section along with supervision of staff in a supportive and positive manner.

The park is looking for someone with relevant experience in supervising a team, or someone who is ready for that next career step.

The candidate should be confident, motivated and approachable, with a good understanding of animal husbandry.

Applicants will need a professional and methodical approach to record keeping, staff training and health and safety.

They will hold an animal management qualification, have successfully completed the DMZAA and due to driving in animal restricted areas, possess a full, valid driving licence.

The person will also be passionate and enthusiastic about wildlife, education and biodiversity management, and must be flexible in their approach to work outside of standard business hours, including weekends, bank holidays and some evenings.

This senior keeper position has a salary of between £18,360 and £19,500. Applications for this role close on Monday, February 8.

Benefits for both positions include an annual pass to visit the park with family and friends throughout the year, discount on online purchases and in store, and a 35 per cent discount in the retail and catering outlet.
