A COUPLE's craft beer deliveries have been boosting donations to a local foodbank during lockdown.

The Copper Beech Brewing Company was born after corporate manager Dan Lawson's home brewing hobby became too big for the spare room of their Aggborough home.

Just before the pandemic hit, 34-year-old Dan and hairdresser wife Sam invested all their savings in setting up their own nano-brewery, buying equipment and building a 'brew shed' in their back garden.

Sam, 33, said: "Dan's spent the last 12 months getting to know the professional side of beer brewing and trialling recipes, it's taken an awful lot of research and Dan's read a lot of books.

"Then we launched our business to the market at the end of January and we sold out pretty much within 48 hours.

"We did our first round of deliveries last week and it's had a really great response.

"It's quite funny because before 2018, Dan never really drank beer, he was more of a cider drinker.

"It was my dad that got him into it. He's a really big fan of real ale and my parents are part owners in the business.

"It all started when Dan organised a Severn Valley trip around the local pubs for us and my parents and we just started talking about how beer is brewed and Dan decided to give it a go himself."

Dan and Sam have launched three craft beers - Half Moon, a zesty chocolate stout, I Left My Heart in NYC, an Indian pale ale, and Birdie, a pale ale - and are due to release their fourth at the end of February.

They've also been supporting local foodbanks with their 'Delivery with a Difference' incentive, which asks customers to make a charity food donation instead of paying a delivery fee.

Sam said: "Dan has a very strong desire to help the local community, especially as people have been in such difficult times for the last 12 months.

"We're both still working full-time so we're not reliant on the brewery business at the moment and we just wanted to make sure we're giving back to the community in some way.

"Dan came up with the idea of supporting the foodbank as we know they have been particularly struggling because of being so much busier during the pandemic."

The Copper Beech Brewing Company's online shop opens for seven days per month and is available for local delivery in Kidderminster, Stourport, Bewdley, Droitwich, Bromsgrove and Worcester.

The next beer release will be on Friday, February 26 at 5pm. Visit copperbeechbrewco.co.uk for more information.
