A PEDESTRIAN has died at the scene of a crash involving a HGV at Stone, near Kidderminster.

Police have confirmed that a man has died following the collision on the A448 at Stone Hill this morning.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "At around 9am this morning, we received reports of a serious collision on the A448 near Kidderminster involving a pedestrian and an HGV.

"Sadly a person has died at the scene... and an investigation is under way."

Several ambulance crews and the Midlands Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene just after 8.20am.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a collision between a HGV and a pedestrian on Stone Hill at 8.22am.

"We sent three ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the pedestrian.

"Sadly, despite their best efforts it became apparent nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

The stretch of road at Stone Hill, on the A448, was blocked off by police or several hours and people were warned to avoid the area. The end of Stanklyn Lane was also closed but both have since been reopened.

Wyre Forest Police posted on social media earlier today: "The A448 is closed from the roundabout in Spennells, through Stone Hill, to the Mustow Green roundabout in both directions.

"The road is likely to remain closed for some time as we deal with an RTC. Please find alternative routes."
