THE fire service has confirmed the cause of a fatal fire at a farm in Droitwich.

A man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene following the fire at Westfields Farm on February 15.

The fire service have now confirmed that the cause of the fire was accidental and involved cooking.

A spokesman for the Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We can confirm that a Fire Investigation took place and the cause of the fire was accidental, involving cooking.

"This tragic event underlines the importance of having smoke alarms fitted on every floor of your property and tested on a regular basis.

When we spoke to the owner of the farm he said the situation was an 'awful tragedy' but did not wish to make any further comments.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find a man, who had been involved in a fire at a property, being given CPR by bystanders and police.

“Ambulance staff took over resuscitation efforts but sadly nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed dead a short time later on scene.”
