AN eyebrow stylist from Kidderminster has transformed an empty salon and flats in the town centre to fulfil her dream of opening her own brow and beauty bar.

The Hyde is due to open in Oxford Street on Tuesday, April 13 following a £15,000 investment from owner Amie Hyde.

The 37-year-old mum-of-three has been working as a nail and beauty technician for 10 years, and says the coronavirus lockdown gave her the time to plan how to take her career to the next step.

"I already had my own established business as a mobile nail technician," said Amie. "I started taking beauty courses and I developed a love for brows and picked up a flare for doing them.

"It was just brow tints at first then I discovered henna as a product, then I recently trained in semi-permanent brows.

"I think there's definitely a demand for a salon like this in Kidderminster. There's a massive gap in the market for a brow-focussed salon in the town."

Amie added: "Having my own brow bar and beauty salon is something I've always wanted to do. I had a little brow bar on Stourport Road, I rented it, but it was nothing like this.

"Opening on a bigger scale is something I've always wanted to do but I never had the time or the guts to go for it. With the lockdown, it gave everyone time to think. Me and my husband started talking and I had the time on my hands to focus on doing the training to be able to teach.

"I’m an accredited tutor now, that kept me busy through the lockdown. Then I started looking for a premises and I went to view it. It's funny because I used to rent a space in that salon, I've gone full circle.

"We got the keys at the beginning of January and it was in an absolutely dire condition. The downstairs was like a building site. It's been a really big project but now it's all been worth it."

As well as offering eyebrow tints, henna brows and semi-permanent brows, The Hyde also offers beauty treatments such as lash extensions and nails, and Amie also specialises in festival hair such as chunky braids.

Amie hopes to take on an aesthetics nurse in future, and there are also two beauty rooms at the salon that are yet to be occupied.

The Hyde will be open Tuesday to Saturday, with training on Mondays. For more information, search The Hyde brow and beauty bar on Facebook.
