A VICIOUS dog attack in a Kidderminster park left a greyhound with "nasty" bite wounds and a volunteer dog walker with injuries to his hand.

The greyhound was being walked by a Cinnamon Trust volunteer in White Wickets Park on Friday afternoon when it was set upon by a husky which was off its lead at the time of the attack.

Sharing photographs of the greyhound's horrific injuries on Facebook, the Greyhound Trust Hall Green described the incident as an "awful attack", which it said left the dog with blood pouring from its leg and a "terrible bite" on his backside.

The post reads: "This greyhound was attacked on a Friday afternoon whilst out with the volunteer at White Wickets Park, he was badly injured and the volunteer was injured whilst trying to separate the dogs.

"The greyhound had a large area of rump bitten away and puncture wounds all over its rump.

"The other dog, a husky type, was not on the lead. The walker eventually came over, refused to give a name and was believed to give a false address."

The trust said the incident was reported to police and to the dog warden.

The volunteer is said to be "okay" but has a badly bruised hand and finger.

"It was an awful attack and he feared for his safety," the trust's Facebook post continued. "Poor gentle [greyhound] had blood pouring from a leg wound and the terrible bite on his backside.

"The man with the husky type dog said it was his sister's dog, details were given to the police.

"The disabled owner of the greyhound was called and was in a terrible state, [greyhound] was operated on and the wounds were far more extensive than originally thought, the rump wound was far deeper than originally thought and through two levels of muscle, had three different layers of stitches.

"Found a nasty wound on the tail and a wound on front of leg, all flushed, cleaned and stitched.

"The greyhound came home at 7pm but was dreadfully unwell in the night crying etc., would not eat, drink or take pills. Things are looking grim with all his underlying health issues - liver, pancreas. The vets took him back, tried to reassure the owner that he will be in the best place.

"We are fetching the greyhound from the vets [on Friday] to stay with a volunteer of our branch as the disabled owner cannot look after her greyhound's needs at the moment. The cost so far is £3,500 and going up.

"The Cinnamon Trust and us are doing all we can."
