A MISSING dog has been reunited with her grateful owner thanks to the combined efforts of a few selfless individuals who abandoned their cars to help catch the frightened pooch after it travelled 15 miles to Kidderminster.

Bewdley resident Paul Hart had already seen posts on Facebook about a beige dog on the loose in the town, when he spotted the escaped pet running between cars along the busy Worcester Road on Sunday.

He said: "I had seen on Facebook that this dog was running around places in Kidderminster.

"I was driving along the Worcester Road dual carriageway and I saw lots of cars slowing down and thought that's strange. Then I saw the dog running around so I stopped and dumped my car and ran after it.

"I'm 41 so I can't run very fast but I chased it up the link road and flagged down a couple of cars. One man ditched his car and started chasing the dog with me.

"A car slowed alongside me and I asked one of the guys to try and get in front of it because I was running behind and he went around the island and came round in front of it.

"By this time we were by Wyre Forest Leisure Centre, the construction site next door.

"We were chasing this dog like crazy people for quite a while. It went into a fenced area inside the construction site.

"A woman came along, she was wonderful, and ran out from her car with a box of biscuits she had for her own dog and got them out to try and entice it.

"It ran around the back of the building, ran past the lady, ran past me and went back through a hole in the fence. It wasn't going to stop.

"We managed to chase it back in and grabbed some removable fences and put them up to trap it.

"We finally managed to grab hold of it and a guy brought over some water from one of the neighbours. The dog was completely exhausted.

"I put a post up on the Kidderminster Connects Facebook page and someone commented with a lady's number who was missing her dog.

"The woman on the phone said 'it can't be my dog' because she lived in Bridgnorth, but I described it and it turned out it was. She couldn't believe it had travelled so far.

"We waited with the dog until the lady came to collect it with her neighbour. She was over the moon, she was crying. Apparently the dog had been missing for about a week.

"People had reported sightings of it in Arley, Cookley and a few places in Kidderminster. It's a miracle she didn't get hit by a car.

"I'm just glad I drove past when I did, it was a real team effort."
