POLICE are appealing for witnesses or information following reports that a couple were pushed into a canal in Stourport-on-Severn.

Officers were called to the canal near to York Street at just before 8am on Wednesday April 28 after receiving a report that a man and a woman had been pushed into the water following an altercation with a fisherman.

The man is described as being between 30 and 40 years old, slim in build, clean shaven and he was wearing baggy tracksuit bottoms and a dark coloured hoodie. He was carrying a yellow bag.

Investigating officer, PC Chris Hillman said: “We believe a disagreement had broken out between the couple and the man who was fishing in the canal. During this verbal exchange it is reported that the fisherman pushed the couple into the water.

“Obviously this was a very distressing incident for the couple and thankfully they did not suffer any serious injuries. We would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen the man fishing or recognise him from the description to get in touch with us.”

Anyone who saw the incident or has any information is asked to report it online under the Tell Us About section of the West Mercia Police website quoting reference 58i of 28 April or call 101.
