ONE of the longest running tennis clubs in Worcestershire has announced an extensive refurb of its courts is now complete.

Bewdley Tennis Club, on Stourport Road, now has seven all-weather courts available for local members to play on.

This follows work to replace the surface of three of its courts after the clay courts were showing signs of extensive wear and tear.

The club and its members needed to think about the long-term issues with regards to the surface. It went to a vote and the popular opinion was to change to an artificial grass surface.

Keen to use a local supplier for the surface, and after much research, the development committee opted for Tiger Turf, a company based in Hartlebury. Chiltern Sports Contractors installed the new surface.

After seven weeks of work, the club says the courts are looking stunning and members were queueing up to try it out.

Tim Merrison, president of the tennis club, said: "Tennis has been the lifeline for many of our member during the pandemic and during some of the busy club nights we hold, rain or frost has meant we couldn’t play on the existing clay courts so it made sense to opt for a surface which will allow us to offer seven all-weather courts for our members to play on."
