KIDDERMINSTER kept themselves afloat while all around them floundered to pick up some precious bonus points against arch local rivals Barnt Green after the rest of this week's Birmingham League programme was completely washed out by wet weather.

Such is the quality of Kidderminster's Chester Road wicket these days that both sides were prepared to wait until the last possible moment before play could commence.

Reduced to a 20 over contest, Kidderminster were put into bat and managed to muster 121 for six from their allotted spell at the crease.

Wicketkeeper Vikai Kelley led the charge with 39 and found support from skipper Neil Pinner, the former Leicestershire and Worcester player plundering 23 while Callum Bennett contributed a further 33 not out.

Barnt Green commenced their replay in commanding fashion through the Banton brothers Jacques and England white ball star Tom.

It was Tom Banton who looked set to take the game away from Kiddy as he thumped a boundary laden 45 off 20 balls which included six fours and three sixes before falling victim to Liam Weston with the score on 75.

Weston struck again the following ball by removing Barnt Green wicketkeeper Amrinder Brar and then captured the wicket of Jacques Banton just one run later to finish with figures of three for 17.

Barnt Green had barely progressed much further to reach 82 for three from just 7.3 overs when the umpires stepped in to call a halt and abandon the game.

The outcome prevented a frustrated Barnt Green from going top of the table and instead trail defending champions Berkswell by nine points going into the fifth round of matches.

Barnt Green will hope for better luck when they entertain Shrewsbury this Saturday at Cherry Hill while Kidderminster make the trip to Shifnal.

Bromsgrove bid to go clear at the top in Premier Division Two when they entertain Oswestry at St Godwalds Park while Himley have a local derby on their hands when they host high flying Halesowen at Stourbridge Road.
