POLICE have issued a warning after a spate of men exposing themselves.

In the last month there has been an increase in reports of indecent exposure incidents, and officers have admitted it is very unusual for them to have had so many reports.

Just last week police appealed for information after a man exposing himself to a child in Keenan Park in Carlisle.

This followed reports of a man walking the streets wearing nothing but a beanie hat and looking into people's windows.

Cumbria Constabulary's lead for Rape and Serious Sexual Offences, Temporary Chief Inspector Vicki Coombes, said: “We have had reports of five incidents in the last month.

“We believe two of these could be connected and we are following all leads.

“We want members of the community to report any incidents to us right away and give us the best chance at finding the culprit. However we would advise people not to engage with them or approach them. We would also advise that people keep their windows and doors locked.”

Police are appealing for information about all of the following reports of indecent exposure:

  • April 21 at Town Dyke Car Park, Carlisle.
  • May 6 at Mulcaster Crescent, Stanwix.
  • May 7 at Alfred Street South City Centre
  • May 12 at Finkle Street City Centre
  • May 15 at Keenan Park, Harraby.

Police urge you to contact them if you witnessed any of the above incidents.

DCI Coombes said: “We don’t want our communities subjected to this. We want to people to contact us. Our patrols are all aware and ready to respond.

“We don’t believe it is just one person and we don’t want people to worry.

"If you have been a victim of this type of crime I would urge you to get some support. Victim Support are great and have lots of useful information on their website.”
