A KIDDERMINSTER woman named in the Queens Birthday Honours list has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM).

Tonia Enderbury, of Spennells, is chief executive officer at Droitwich CVS, and has been recognised for her services to the community.

In response to being awarded the BEM, she said: "It was a total shock. I didn't have any idea at all.

"Obviously I'm very honoured and proud to accept it. It's humbling that somebody has taken the time to nominate me in the first place.

The community group provides support for people living in Droitwich and have worked tirelessly for those in need throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

They have been delivering food and prescriptions to individuals and helping them get through the tough year.

Elsewhere in Worcestershire, Craig Browne from Droitwich was awarded the BEM for services to charitable fundraising and volunteering during Covid-19.

In Redditch, former England footballer Geoff Thomas, founder of the Geoff Thomas Foundation, was awarded an MBE for services to the NHS and Charity.

Michael John Hopkins, from Redditch, who is principal of South and City College in Birmingham, was awarded an MBE for services to education.
