RESIDENTS have questioned the effectiveness of a splashpad in Worcester after the council that runs it announced it had stopped working.

Worcester City Council confirmed the splashpad in Gheluvelt Park is out of service due to a “technical fault”.

It is not yet clear how long it will take to repair.

A council tweet read: “We are sorry to report that the splashpad in Gheluvelt Park has closed temporarily due to a technical fault.

“An engineer is on the way We will post again as soon as we hear that it has been fixed.”

But the water feature for toddlers to early teens has been the subject of online criticism since the news broke.

One Facebook poster wrote: “I think I wrote when you first posted it was open something about how long until it closes again, happens every year either get better engineer out or just remove it, saving money.

“Just put in another park and forget about the splash pad costing us tax-payers a fortune.”

Another said: “Surprise, surprise its broken down again. What a waste of money.”

The next was a little more cutting, saying: “More taxpayers money going into this strip of junk again? Damn thing is always out of action!”

Another asked: “Is this a joke? How many times has this been fixed? Who does the fixing?”
