How the town, industry and the community have changed in Kidderminster and the surrounding area is being interpreted as part of the new Generations exhibition, which is now live at the Museum of Carpet in Kidderminster.

Running until September 4 2021, the exhibition is showcasing photographs from its archive collection and those donated by the public, to highlight different generations of community and industry, over time.

Sue Hetherington, museum manager said: “Life has changed quite rapidly for different generations of families in Kidderminster, especially over the past century during the boom time of the carpet industry and then subsequently during its decline. We are pleased that our unique collection of photographs allows visitors to see just how the people and production of the town has changed over time and the legacy the carpet industry has left on the town.”

For the first time, the exhibition has been arranged to include a free outdoor exhibition, outside Morrisons supermarket on Green Street in Kidderminster, which has been made possible by the Culture Recovery Fund.

Being able to share photographs with pedestrians is something the museum says has rhelped to engage the local community.

Many have been reminiscing of times gone by whilst identifying people they recognise in the exhibition photographs.

The exhibition, Generation: The People and Production of Kidderminster is funded by The Arts Society, The Newcomen Society and the Culture Recovery Fund.
