MORE affordable homes are on the way for Wyre Forest as social housing provider Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) start work on two developments.

Construction has begun to deliver 13 one-bedroom apartments for affordable rent on the former Musketeer Arms pubs site on Avon Road.

The new properties are scheduled for completion by March 2022.

Bdht has also secured nine one, two and three-bedroom properties available for shared ownership and social rent as part of a wider scheme delivered by Cameron Homes on the site of the former Stourminster School on Comberton Road.

The homes are expected to be delivered in phases from as early as January 2022.

Mark Robertson, chief executive at bdht, said: “We are committed to tackling the housing crisis, and the massive shortfall in the supply of affordable homes of all types across the region, and these developments in Kidderminster are demonstrative of this.

“With a growing waiting list of people looking for new homes, we are delighted to have been able to work positively and collaboratively with Wyre Forest District Council to bring these exciting new schemes forward for the local community.

"We also excitedly await the result of our planning application for Vale Road and look forward to helping more people who currently require housing support."

In addition to these schemes, bdht has also submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of land at Vale Road in Stourport.

The site, if approved, will include a total of 31 properties, with a collection of one and two-bedroom flats and two-bedroom houses available for affordable rent, and five ground floor apartments which comply with wheelchair adapted standards.

If the planning application is successful work is expected to start on site in September 2021, and will be delivered in conjunction with Midlands-based property developers, Tricas Construction.
