A NATURE-LOVING Kidderminster group is urging people to get snapping to record wildlife sightings in their gardens.

The Kidderminster Gardens group on Facebook is holding a Garden Watch competition for people to send pictures of their close encounters with nature - and to also show what they have done to help wildlife and encourage creatures into their gardens.

Prizes for most sightings logged will be handed out at the end of July and August, thanks to prize donations from Chadwick Bank nursery in Stourport and Red Cross Nursery, Chaddesley Corbett.

The competition forms part of the group's 'Wildlife Wednesdays' feature.

Founder of the Kidderminster Gardens group, Christopher Millington, said: "I'm pleased the success of Wildlife Wednesdays has allowed us as a community to explore and discuss important areas of conservation-based activity that everyone can do at home to help give our local wildlife a boost.

"We have a number of exciting projects in development and I'd encourage anyone interested to join our community so you can be part of this too."

Councillor Vicky Caulfield added: "I am excited to be part of this project promoting and supporting our local wildlife and plants.

"I hope this project will raise awareness across the Wyre Forest on how to help our pollinators and other wildlife - it's so easy to take part and there are some great prizes available."

To take part, visit iNaturalist.org and register an account, then search Kidderminster Garden Watch and click 'join project'.

You can then submit pictures via the mobile app or website.
