A ZUMBA dancing 70-year-old from Bromsgrove finally got the birthday celebrations she deserved - after two failed attempts due to Covid.

Sallyann Dale turned 70 on July 11 and her Zumba group decided to hold a party on July 25 to celebrate the momentous occasion once Covid restrictions were lifted.

Close friend, Maggie Lett said: "The party was set to take place at at the home of a friend who is, without doubt, the best party hostess in Bromsgrove.

"However disaster struck when our host's son contracted Covid so a decision was swiftly taken to meet at Sanders Park.

"Everyone agreed this was a great alternative and particularly as the Avonbank Brass Band was playing.

"The band were contacted and very kindly agreed to play Happy Birthday and it meant we could also have a bit of a boogie.

"Everything was going fine with our new plan until the band had also fallen foul of Covid so they sadly had to cancel at the last minute."

So instead of being disheartened by two cancellations, the Zumba group, who meet at Altered Images on Worcester Road and Bromsgrove Sport and Leisure Centre, decided to put their hobby to use.

Maggie added: "Well, us girls are a resourceful and positive lot so we got some music together, got onto our feet and did our own thing; 'Zumbaing' to our favourite dance sounds under the direction of our lovely dance teacher, Tina.

"In the end we had a marvellous day, one which we will all, and Sallyann in particular, will remember for a long time."
