A SLICE of tropical paradise contained within a Stourport back garden is once again opening to visitors.

Nature lovers will next have the chance to explore the tropical hideaway at 3 Oakhampton Road in Stourport on Saturday, July 31, as part of the National Garden Scheme.

The garden was designed by David and Sandra Traynor, who have dedicated the past five years to growing their dream patch of paradise.

The garden is home to an array of palm trees, with species from around the globe, a large pond filled with Koi fish, and a waterfall.

They moved to Oakhampton Road in February 2016, and started work on the garden in March.

Their plan was to put together a garden with a tropical feel, that would include lots of palms from around the world, together with tree ferns, bananas, and as many other strange, and unusual plants from warmer climes that would normally be considered difficult to grow here.

They also encourage as much wildlife into the garden as possible with birds, amphibians, bats, and hedgehogs enjoying the tropical garden.

Mr Traynor, who is a designer and photographer, wanted the garden to be “totally immersive,” and to replicate an environment found on a holiday abroad.

Mr Traynor previously told The Shuttle: “Our idea was to try and make this garden as immersive as possible and give people an experience that would show them that these things getting more popular now are not as difficult as people might think, with a little bit of thought.

“I’ve always been interest in wildlife and natural history, but we’ve never had a vehicle to express that and go wild with our imagination.

“For us, it’s about putting things into a garden that you would only normally ever see on holiday."

As well as on Saturday, people can also visit the garden during open days on August 29 and August 30. People can pre-book their tickets for all upcoming open days in advance, or turn up and pay on the day.

Opening times are between 10am and 6:30pm on Saturday. Admission costs £4.50 for adults and children can go free. Home-made teas will be available on the open days and plants for sale.
