FRUSTRATED Bewdley residents have slammed plans to build 80 new homes off a traffic jam-prone road.

Persimmon Homes have submitted a planning application to build the new homes off Kidderminster Road, Catchems End, introducing more affordable homes to the area.

However, more than 60 people have raised objections to the plans on Wyre Forest District Council's planning portal.

Some have said the proposed homes would lead to the already busy Kidderminster Road becoming even more congested, whilst others are concerned about the strain on the town, pollution, and loss of habitat for wildlife.

One objector said: "The Kidderminster road is busy enough as it is as the main entrance to Bewdley living on the Kidderminster road and trying to already pull out onto it is already a nightmare and an accident waiting to happen without having another entrance to 80 other homes directly opposite."

Another said: "There are already frequent traffic jams on this road and with more local cars, that is likely to increase."

Another said: "Already the traffic in and around Bewdley is horrendous."

Another said: "The land is prime green belt. It is a nature area with lots of local wildlife and flora."

Although the site is on green belt land, the draft of the council's local plan proposes to allocate the site for development, according to the developers.

In a planning statement made by RPS Consulting Services on behalf on Persimmon Homes, the developers have said the new houses will bring more affordable housing to the area and economic benefits.

A spokesperson for Persimmon Homes said: “This is an outline planning application submitted by Persimmon Homes as part of the Wyre Forest District Council emerging plan for the area.

“As part of the planning process we will listen to and work with local people and the council.”
