A BOMB disposal team has been called to Bewdley after a potential explosive was found.
The bridge is currently closed and police are asking members of the public to stay out of the area and use alternative routes.
Businesses in the area have been evacuated as a precaution.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: Officers are in attendance at Riverside North in Bewdley, dealing with a potential suspect explosive.
“The road and nearby bridge has been closed to traffic.
“Bomb disposal experts from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) have been informed and will arrive at the site shortly."
A 100m cordon has been put up around the area and residents have been moved to a safe location.
Nearby businesses have been evacuated as a precaution and for their safety.
West Mercia Police added: "We are asking the public to stay out of the area and use alternative travel routes as there is increased congestion now around Bewdley."
