ANGRY Bewdley residents have said plans to build 100 new homes will add to traffic chaos and create safety fears.

Euro Property Investments Limited submitted a planning application to build the new houses on the 'Stourport Road Triangle' earlier this year.

However, objections and concerns have been raised over further congestion on Stourport Road, and the safety of residents and children at the nearby primary and secondary school.

Stourport Road resident Nicholas Mayman, aged 69, said: "Local residents near the proposed 100 house plan opposite Bewdley’s Leisure Centre are angry that a proper Traffic Impact Assessment has not been carried out.

"They have been complaining of school traffic chaos for years and consider that if the council does approve these plans then it must insist that the developers make appropriate community compensation for greenbelt loss, including traffic calming and improved school parking measures."

Another Bewdley resident said: "There's huge risks involved with this if it's not planned correctly. There's huge risks to life here."

He also believes plans should be re reviewed.

On Wyre Forest District Council's planning portal, one objector said: "The infrastructure of the town is just not geared to such a huge increase in population. I cannot see how the doctors, schools and other amenities could cope.

"The development is not needed. It would have a catastrophic effect upon the town and the quality of life of those of us who live in Bewdley."

In the planning statement on behalf of the applicants, property agents Harris Lamb said: "The development would result in a number of significant benefits, which include the provision of new market and affordable housing.

"Any harm generated by scheme falls well short of significantly and demonstrably outweighing benefits. In this instance, the scheme benefits significantly outweigh harm."
