A 'CONTROLLING' man beat up his partner, told her what to wear, repeatedly made unfounded allegations of infidelity and threatened to kill her.

Christopher Morris appeared at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday where he admitted controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship.

The 32-year-old also admitted assault by beating on December 15 last year, making threats to kill between December 19 and 23 last year and a further count of assault by beating on December 28 last year.

The remaining counts will be permitted to lie on file.

The controlling and coercive behaviour had a 'serious effect' upon his victim and involved 'making unfounded allegations of infidelity, objecting to her clothing and use of makeup, restricting and monitoring her social media contact, being repeatedly abusive and demeaning' which caused her to fear on at least two occasions that violence will be used against her, the court heard.

This behaviour took place between June 1 last year and January 9 this year. The offences took place in Kidderminster.

Both prosecution and defence asked that the case be adjourned until the following day for sentence.

James Bruce, prosecuting the case, said the judge may need to consider dangerousness (as defined in law). However, Judge James Burbidge QC said: "I don't need to consider dangerousness."

Before the lunch adjournment, Judge Burbidge had asked whether he was able to proceed to sentence, reminding counsel that the court had been sitting for three hours that morning without any of the listed trials being heard by a jury.

He said four trials had not gone ahead because the defendants had pleaded guilty on what would have been the first day of trial.

The defendant of Jenks Avenue, Wolverhampton is due to appear for sentence today at 10am.

In the meantime he was remanded in custody. He will be produced in person at the sentence hearing rather than over the link.
