A MAN with links to Kidderminster, who is charged with causing the death of a pensioner by dangerous driving, has appeared in court.

James Bullock of Shawfield, Hollywood appeared at Worcester Crown Court on September 8 after being charged with a number offences relating to a hit and run in Alvechurch including driving a vehicle involved in a road accident; failing to report that accident and committing an act/series of acts with intent to pervert the course of public justice.

Stephan Jones, aged 63 from Alvechurch and his dog died after being hit by a car which fled the scene on Redditch Road on Sunday, August 15.

Bullock appeared via video link and did not enter a plea.

The 28-year-old was arrested on Friday, August 27 in Stratford-upon-Avon by officers from Warwickshire Police for public order offences.

He evaded police for 12 days after the fatal crash and disposed of his mobile phone to prevent him from being located.

The following morning, he was transferred to the custody of West Mercia Police officers.

The case has been adjourned until September 27.

The inquest into Stephan Jones’ death was opened on August 31 by Stourport Coroners and adjourned for a hearing on February 14 next year.
